If you are looking for something fun to do during the April school holidays and you are an avid cycling enthusiast, then make sure you don't miss out on The Cradle Cycle Festival, in partnership with Gauteng Tourism and The Leverage Corporation which will take place on the 11th and 12th April at Maropeng.
The Festival runs in conjunction with The Cradle Mountain Trophy, a two day Mountain Biking extravaganza attracting almost 1000 cyclists and the perfect last training event for those cyclists doing Sani2C or Joburg2C.
The race on the Saturday will comprise a 75km ride, departing at 07:00 from the amphitheatre at Maropeng. The first day will provide some challenging single track racing, particularly for those riders training for Sani2C and Joburg2C. The second day is only 45km and riders are welcome to cycle both days. It is an ideal ride for those leisure riders who are looking for a shorter stage practice ride and this will start at 08:00 on Sunday.
The Cradle Festival is not only for riders. It is an ideal family event. It will be a great day out for the whole family with a fun, safe, kiddies area to keep the little one's entertained while the parents enjoy delicious food and Craft Beer. There will be a large variety of food stands and businesses in the area advertising their services. We encourage people to round up their friends and families, bring a picnic blanket and come and join in the fun.
It is also a great way to spend a weekend. Why not visit www.magaliesbergmap.co.za and see which hotels in The Cradle and Muldersdrift will be offering family packages that weekend.
Just a short 45 minute drive from either Johannesburg or Pretoria, what better place to spend a warm April weekend than at Maropeng in the Cradle of Humankind.
Entry for families is free. Rider rates and entry details are available on www.mountain-trophy.co.za for more information.
